Pilates for Mental Wellness: Brie's Story
At Studio Evolve, we often hear stories of transformation, but Brie’s journey is truly inspiring.
How 8 Years of Pilates at Studio Evolve Helped Brie Build a Strong Mind-Body Connection and Improve Her Mental Health
After eight years and 120 Pilates sessions, Brie has not only built strength and flexibility, but she’s also cultivated a deep, lasting relationship with her body—one that has profoundly impacted her mental health.
The Start of Brie’s Pilates Journey
Brie first came to Studio Evolve in 2017, searching for a movement practice that was more engaging than running on a treadmill or lifting weights at the gym. She quickly discovered that Pilates, with its focus on intentional, fluid movement, was exactly what her body and mind needed.
"Pilates really works for my ADD brain because there’s a lot of switching things up, but in a way that feels calm and not hectic. There’s also a grace to the movement, and a way it helps my mind rest, that has helped me in building a relationship with my body over time," says Brie.
Building a Strong Mind-Body Connection
Through her consistent Pilates practice, Brie began to understand her body in new ways. Pilates isn’t just a form of exercise—it’s a way to reconnect with your body and reframe how you think about movement. This is something that resonated deeply with Brie.
"Of all the things I’ve had to relearn in my life, the mind-body relationship is one of them. The idea that the body is a robot and your mind is pulling the levers is one of the backbones of Western society, and actually, it’s not like that," she explains.
Pilates at Studio Evolve helped Brie explore movement possibilities she had never realized before. This new understanding of her body not only empowered her physically, but also contributed to her mental well-being, alleviating stress and improving her overall mental health.
