How Eric Improved His Skiing Performance and Built His Resilience to Injuries

“I’m an advanced/expert skier, but before coming to Studio Evolve, I had been having trouble advancing.

At this point, improving my performance is about making minute adjustments, like being able to hold my core still while moving other parts of my body. It takes a lot of body awareness to be able to do that, and Pilates has really helped with that.”

-Eric, Accelerator Graduate and Studio Evolve Student

When Eric found Studio Evolve, he had been practicing Pilates online through another studio, but found that online sessions were no longer giving him the accountability or quality of instruction he was looking for.

Eric wanted to get results quickly, so after trying out a few classes and private sessions, he decided to jump fully in with The Accelerator.

During the month he spent in The Accelerator, Eric was able to work with several practitioners, including Kimmie, Chelsea, Wade, and Jill.

“What I really like about Studio Evolve is that the instructors talk with each other about me - they’re not isolated. So there’s this sense that they’re all working together to support me,” says Eric.

Since The Accelerator, Eric has found that his athletic performance has improved, his posture is better, and minor injuries that otherwise would have set him back for a long time are resolving much more quickly.

And he appreciates the way his classes and sessions give him time to focus on himself and break up his day.

Now, he’s continuing his practice by taking group Reformer classes as well as weekly Private Pilates Sessions with Kimmie and weekly Private Gyrotonic Sessions with Wade.

“It’s been really helpful to work with someone who understands what I’m looking for. Kimmie has an athletic background and so much technical knowledge. She snowboards herself, so she understands what I mean when I talk about skiing.”

Eric finds that the one-on-one attention he gets in private sessions helps him get more out of his group class workouts - and he’s also learned personalized warm-up exercises that he uses on the chairlift!

“Everyone is really open and accepting,” says Eric. “I’ve never felt like because I’m a guy I shouldn’t be here. I think it’s a missed opportunity for a lot of men…I mean Sylvester Stallone does Pilates!”
