How low back pain kept me from my practice during the pandemic

Back in 2019 and early 2020, I was doing regular private Gyrotonic sessions. They kept me strong and active, and helped stabilize my low back - I’ve had a tweaky S.I. joint since I had a baby 9 years ago.

Then when the pandemic hit, I switched to practicing on my own and doing recorded content. I was working out a LOT to help manage my stress and anxiety, and at first it was great - I could feel myself getting so much stronger!

But eventually, my low back started screaming in pain after I worked out - even though I was doing the same exercises that used to feel good. I thought maybe I had overdid it, so I gave it a rest for a while. But every time I tried to come back to my practice, the pain came right back.

For a while I managed the pain with acupuncture and bodywork. It helped, but it wasn’t getting to the root of the problem because I was recreating it when I worked out on my own.

As someone who has mostly carved my own path, I’m not a huge fan of asking for help and have a very full schedule. But I got to the point where I knew I didn’t know how to best help myself and I needed to ask for support.
