How To Turn Your New Year’s Resolution Into An Intention

(And WHY it’s a good idea)

The New Year’s Resolution train left the station weeks ago (and perhaps got stuck dead on the tracks not long after that) but we’re not really into “resolutions” at Studio Evolve.

Why? Because most “resolutions” are premised on the idea that there’s something wrong with you.

That the way you are right now is NOT GOOD ENOUGH.

We don’t believe it. And the truth is that shame is not a sustainable motivator for self-care - which is why most New Year’s Resolutions only last a few weeks.

But we DO believe in setting intentions.

While resolutions tend to be binary (you either keep the resolution or you break it) and can inspire negative self-talk, intentions are broader and focus on the positive things you want to bring into your life.

And you can set an intention at any time! Here’s how:

1. Start with the energy of how you want to feel. Comfortable in your body? Energized? Calm and relaxed in the face of stress?

2. State your intention as an AIM that will guide your ACTIONS. For example, “I intend to make healing choices to support the health of my body and nervous system.”

3. Take action! Consider one small action you can take each day to support your intention. Like going to bed by 10pm, or making yourself breakfast, or scheduling a Pilates session.

If your intention for this month or this year includes caring for your physical and mental health, we are here for you.

And if you’re looking for a high level of support within a container that’s caring, curious, and kind (without the punitive or shaming energy you may have brought to your exercise practice in the past) we invite you to check out The Accelerator.

It’s a one-month program that includes 3 weekly private Pilates sessions, plus bodywork and breathwork sessions.,

We designed it for folks who are ready to commit to a functional self-care practice that they actually LIKE doing, so that they can build strength, reduce pain, and increase the energy they bring to their work, their relationships, and their lives.
